Passenger Management
- 1/22When carrying passengers in a truck
In Saudi Arabia, passengers are only allowed to sit in factory-installed cab seats equipped with seat belts. Carrying people in cargo beds or trailers is strictly prohibited for safety reasons and is punishable by fines.
When passengers are boarding
The driver must ensure the truck is parked on level ground, engine is idling in neutral or off, and passengers enter using proper steps or handles. Avoid boarding in unsafe locations such as highways or inclines.
While driving with passengers
Drivers must avoid sudden accelerations, sharp turns, or abrupt stops, as heavy truck movement can cause passengers to lose balance or suffer injuries inside the cab.
When traveling long distances
Long-haul journeys require planned rest stops every few hours to allow passengers to stretch, rest, hydrate, and reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting.
If passenger refuses to wear a seat belt
It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure all passengers wear seat belts before moving the vehicle. Driving without secured passengers is a violation under Saudi road safety laws.
When carrying child passengers
Children must be secured in age-appropriate car seats or booster seats as per Saudi traffic regulations. Carrying unrestrained children is prohibited.
If transporting multiple passengers
The number of passengers in the cab must not exceed the manufacturer’s designed seating capacity. Overloading the cabin is unsafe and illegal.
During adverse weather
When rain, fog, or sandstorms occur, reduce speed, maintain longer following distances, and ensure passengers are secure to avoid discomfort or injury.
When passengers carry baggage
Loose baggage or tools in the cab must be properly stowed to prevent them from moving around or hitting passengers during turns or sudden stops.
When passengers are unfamiliar with truck safety
Before starting the trip, the driver should explain seat belt use, location of fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and behavior expectations in the cab.
If passenger becomes ill during travel
If a passenger experiences illness or injury, stop in a safe location, provide basic assistance, and call for medical support if necessary.
After completing trip
Park in a safe area, ensure the truck is in neutral with the parking brake engaged, then assist passengers in exiting the cab carefully to avoid falls.
If passengers are seated in unsafe areas
Passengers must not sit in cargo beds, fenders, or roof areas. These positions are unsafe, increase injury risk in sudden stops, and are strictly prohibited by traffic law.
When passengers lack proper restraints
All authorized passengers must wear seatbelts. Not using them increases injury risk during collisions and can lead to fines and legal penalties for the driver.
If overloading with passengers
Trucks must not carry more passengers than seats available. Overcrowding reduces stability, impairs driver control, and violates road safety laws.
When transporting workers
Workers being transported must be seated in properly equipped areas with railings, seating, or safety harnesses to prevent falls and injuries during transit.
If transporting minors
Transporting children on trucks requires special authorization and appropriate restraints. Violations can result in legal action and higher penalties.
If transporting passengers in adverse weather
Extra caution must be taken in heavy rain, wind, or dust storms to ensure passengers remain secure. Poor conditions increase accident risk.
When passengers are obstructing driver view
Passengers must never obstruct mirrors or the driver’s line of sight. Obstruction can cause blind spots and reduce reaction time to hazards.
If passengers are riding without protective gear
Passengers in open or specialized trucks must wear helmets or protective gear. Lack of gear increases injury risk during sudden maneuvers or crashes.
When stopping for passenger safety checks
During long trips, drivers should inspect passenger seating and restraints to ensure everyone remains secure, especially over rough terrain.
If carrying passengers in mixed cargo loads
Passengers must not be placed near loose cargo that can shift during transit. Proper barriers or compartments are required for safety.
